# Pure Func > Clean code. Real products. A little funk. Pure Func is a small product studio. We design and build sites and software for founders and brands, and help teams modernize their frontends with AI. ## What you can bring - **A brand** → [Sites](https://purefunc.io/services/sites.md): A site that looks like you, loads fast, and search and AI can read. Custom marketing sites and Shopify storefronts, designed with you and built static-first: fast on a phone, easy to update, and readable by search engines and AI assistants. - **An idea** → [Build](https://purefunc.io/services/build.md): From idea to a product people can use. Prototype sprints, MVP builds and lightweight SaaS, built fast with AI. We make the design and architecture decisions and test what matters before it ships. - **A codebase** → [Modernize](https://purefunc.io/services/modernize.md): Make an older frontend fast again. A frontend audit with a prioritized fix list, then agents in your repo with review loops and guardrails, so the speed lasts after we leave. - **A team** → [Lead](https://purefunc.io/services/lead.md): We lead your frontend and teach your team to use AI. Part-time frontend leadership for architecture, code review and hiring, and 90-minute calls that teach founders and small teams to use AI to write, plan, prototype and build, without the slop. ## How it works 1. **Talk** (day 0): Tell us what you're building, in your own words. 2. **Call** (day 1): A short call to see if we fit and what the first two weeks look like. 3. **Plan** (day 3): A written proposal: scope, timeline, and exactly what you get. 4. **Build** (weeks): weekly demos in real code. You own the repo from day one. ### What stays true on every project - You own the repo from day one (no lock-in) - A written plan before any code (scope you can hold us to) - Weekly demos in real code (not slides) - AI does the typing, we make the calls (design and architecture) ## How to spot a site AI made on its own Six tells we design against. Run them on any site, yours included. - **Gradient headlines.** A purple-to-blue fade on the biggest words. It looks expensive and says nothing. The fix: Solid type that says what you do. - **Sparkle badges.** “AI-powered” in a glowing pill above the headline. Visitors care what it does, not how. The fix: Lead with the outcome instead. - **Glowing blobs.** A blurry orb of color where the product should be. The fix: Show the real thing. - **Three identical icon cards.** “Fast,” “Secure,” “Scalable,” each with an icon. Every site has them, so they prove nothing. The fix: One specific thing, shown. - **Everything centered.** Every line in the middle and one button whose arrow wiggles. Nothing leads the eye. The fix: A clear first and second choice. - **Copy that fits anyone.** “Unlock the power of seamless innovation.” Swap the logo and it still works, which is the problem. The fix: Words only you could say. How to spot them and fix them, in more depth: [How to spot a site AI made on its own](https://purefunc.io/how-to-spot-ai-made-sites.md) ## Work - [Sentry](https://purefunc.io/work/sentry-shop.md) (Commerce): A merch shop and checkout that looks like Sentry, not a template. - [Level Up Tutorials](https://purefunc.io/work/level-up-tutorials.md) (Education): Quizzes for students and admin tools for staff, on one learning platform. - [Rachio](https://purefunc.io/work/rachio.md) (Commerce): E-commerce woven into the brand site instead of parked beside it. - [Elemental Living](https://purefunc.io/work/elemental-living.md) (Studio): A bilingual, photo-heavy studio site that stays fast on a phone. ## Start [Let's talk](https://purefunc.io/contact): tell us about your project in your own words. Details: https://purefunc.io/services/lead.md # Sites: A site that looks like you, loads fast, and search and AI can read. From a brand to a site people remember. **For:** Brands, studios and founders who need a marketing site or a store that feels like them. **The situation:** A brand worth showing, and a site that undersells it. **What we do:** Custom marketing sites and Shopify storefronts, designed with you and built static-first: fast on a phone, easy to update, and readable by search engines and AI assistants. ## What you get - A site that looks like your brand, not a template - Fast on a phone, with pages search engines and AI can read - Content you can update without calling us ## Offers - **Marketing site:** A custom site for a brand, a studio or a product launch, designed and built end to end. - **Shopify storefront:** A custom theme and checkout that belong with the rest of your brand. - **Site refresh:** A new design and real speed for the site you have, keeping what already works. ## How it runs 1. ## Not a fit for - Template sites at template prices - Sites that need a different editor for every page ## Questions ### How long does a site take? Most marketing sites take two to six weeks, depending on the pages and the content. The plan says it in writing before we start. ### Can I edit it myself? Yes. Pages and posts live in a simple editor or in files you own, whichever suits your team. ### Will it show up on Google and in AI answers? Every site ships with clean structure, share cards, structured data, a sitemap and a plain-text version of each page that AI assistants can read, the same as this site. ### Do you build on Shopify? Yes. We have built custom Shopify storefronts for Sentry and Rachio. ### Can you work from my brand guide? Yes. We build from your brand, or help shape it if it is still rough. [Talk about your site](https://purefunc.io/contact?input=sites) # Build: From idea to a product people can use. From an idea to a working product. **For:** Founders who need a working product before they hire engineers. **The situation:** A deadline, a pitch, maybe a sketch. No engineering team yet. **What we do:** Prototype sprints, MVP builds and lightweight SaaS, built fast with AI. We make the design and architecture decisions and test what matters before it ships. ## What you get - A clickable prototype in real code - Auth, data and payments that work - A codebase your first hire can pick up ## Offers - **Prototype sprint:** A clickable prototype in real code, ready to test with users or show investors. - **MVP build:** A production first version: auth, data, payments, deployed and documented. - **Lightweight SaaS:** A small, focused product for a niche you know well. You own all of it. - **Design engineering:** A design system and UI polish for a product that works but looks scrappy. ## How it runs 1. ## Not a fit for - Cloning an existing app pixel for pixel - Projects that need a full in-house team from day one ## Questions ### How fast is fast? A typical prototype sprint is about two weeks. Your scope sets the real number, and the plan says it in writing before we start. ### Do I own the code? Yes. The repository is yours from the first commit, with no lock-in and no proprietary framework. ### What does AI actually do? It writes a lot of the first draft. We own the architecture, make the design decisions, and test the parts that matter before anything ships. ### Can you work with my designer? Yes. We can build from your designs, or design with you if you do not have them yet. [Talk about your build](https://purefunc.io/contact?input=build) # Modernize: Make an older frontend fast again. From an old frontend to a fast one. **For:** Product teams whose frontend has fallen behind. **The situation:** Slow pages, brittle components, and AI workflows nobody had time to set up properly. **What we do:** A frontend audit with a prioritized fix list, then agents in your repo with review loops and guardrails, so the speed lasts after we leave. ## What you get - An audit you can act on in week one - Measurable wins on speed and accessibility - A team that ships faster with AI, safely ## Offers - **Frontend audit:** Performance, accessibility, architecture and developer experience, written up as a prioritized fix list. - **AI workflow adoption:** Coding agents set up in your repo: conventions, skills, CI checks, review loops and guardrails. - **Agent-ready web:** Make your site legible to AI agents and AI search: llms.txt, structured data, Markdown twins, WebMCP. ## How it runs 1. ## Not a fit for - Backend rewrites with no frontend scope - Teams looking for an AI demo rather than a working workflow ## Questions ### What does an audit cover? Performance, accessibility, architecture, dependencies and developer experience. Every finding comes with a severity and a suggested fix. ### Will agents touch production? Only through your normal review process. Agents open pull requests; people approve them. ### Do you need full repo access? For an audit, read access is enough. For workflow adoption we work in a branch you control. [Ask about an audit](https://purefunc.io/contact?input=modernize) # Lead: We lead your frontend and teach your team to use AI. Frontend leadership on retainer, and AI sessions on a call. **For:** Founders and early teams who need experienced judgment, on the frontend or on AI, before they can hire for it full time. **The situation:** Stack, architecture, hiring, and now AI. Decisions pile up, and getting them wrong costs a year. **What we do:** Part-time frontend leadership for architecture, code review and hiring, and 90-minute calls that teach founders and small teams to use AI to write, plan, prototype and build, without the slop. ## What you get - Decisions written down, not just made - Reviews that raise the bar - A hiring loop that finds the right people - A team that uses AI on real work, and can tell when it’s slop ## Offers - **Fractional frontend lead:** A set number of hours each week for architecture, reviews and planning. - **AI 101 session:** A 90-minute call for one to three people: how to prompt, and how to use AI to write, plan, prototype and build, with your own work as the examples. - **AI working sessions:** Three 90-minute calls over three weeks for up to four people. Each one starts from real work you bring, so the habits stick. - **Hiring help:** Job descriptions, take-home exercises and interview loops for frontend roles. ## How it runs 1. ## Not a fit for - Full-time staff augmentation - Teams that want a manager rather than a technical lead - Talks or workshops for a big room ## Questions ### Who are the AI sessions for? Founders and small teams who use AI a little, or not yet. Each session is a 90-minute call for one to three people, with your own work as the examples. No coding needed. ### What do we leave with? Prompts and a short playbook built from your own examples, so it still helps a month later. ### Which AI tools do you teach? The ones you already use or pay for. We focus on habits that carry over when the tools change. ### How is this different from AI workflow adoption? Workflow adoption, under Modernize, sets up coding agents in an engineering team’s repo. The AI sessions teach people, technical or not, to use AI in their own work. ### How many hours is a retainer? It depends on your team. We agree the hours and the response times in the plan. ### What happens when we hire? We hand over decisions, docs and context, then step back. That is the goal. [Talk about your team](https://purefunc.io/contact?input=lead) # Work - [Sentry](https://purefunc.io/work/sentry-shop.md): Shopify storefront. A merch shop and checkout that looks like Sentry, not a template. - [Level Up Tutorials](https://purefunc.io/work/level-up-tutorials.md): Web app features. Quizzes for students and admin tools for staff, on one learning platform. - [Rachio](https://purefunc.io/work/rachio.md): Shopify theme. E-commerce woven into the brand site instead of parked beside it. - [Elemental Living](https://purefunc.io/work/elemental-living.md): Marketing site. A bilingual, photo-heavy studio site that stays fast on a phone. # Sentry Commerce · Shopify storefront · https://sentry.shop **The problem:** A developer brand people love needed a merch storefront worthy of it. **The move:** A custom Shopify storefront and checkout instead of a stock theme. **The outcome:** Catalog and checkout live in one custom theme that belongs with the rest of the brand. ## Built - Custom Shopify theme - Checkout - Product listing # Level Up Tutorials Education · Web app features · https://levelup.video **The problem:** A popular web development learning platform needed interactive quizzes for students and admin tools for the people running it. **The move:** We designed and built both on the existing stack, so the new surfaces felt like the same product rather than add-ons. **The outcome:** Students and staff work in one platform instead of two bolted together. ## Built - Interactive quizzes - Admin UI - Customer-facing screens # Rachio Commerce · Shopify theme · https://rachio.com **The problem:** The store felt separate from the brand site. **The move:** We wove product listing and checkout into a custom Shopify theme. **The outcome:** One storefront that carries both the brand and the cart. ## Built - Custom Shopify theme - Product listing - Payments # Elemental Living Studio · Marketing site · https://www.elementalliving.design **The problem:** High-value content and large photographs, two languages, and it had to be fast on a phone. **The move:** A custom site built around the photographs and the language switch, with mobile as the default. **The outcome:** The photographs carry the site, and the language switch just works. ## Built - Custom site - Language switcher - Image pipeline > Pure Func is able to achieve what other web developers can't. We needed a fast website with high value content and high quality photographs, smooth language switcher, and is mobile-friendly. Pure func delivered exactly what we needed! We are happy with the results and so are our clients! > — Tune Kantharoup, Elemental Living # How we think: Pure stands straight. Func swings. Everything here comes from one idea: be completely dependable where it matters, and bring some life everywhere else. This is how that idea shapes the name, the logo, this site and the work we do for you. ## The name In programming, a pure function always gives the same result for the same input and never changes anything behind your back. That is the half of the promise you can count on: a written plan, predictable delivery, and code your next engineer can read. Func is the other half: speed, taste, and a bit of play in how things look and feel. - Pure: planned, tested, yours. - Func: fast, bold, shipped. ## The mark The wordmark is drawn, not typed. “pure” stands straight. “func” leans 12°, as if it is already moving. The f’s crossbar sits lower than usual, at 82% of the letter height, and its arm reaches toward the u without touching it. The symbol is just the p and the f. ## One coin, two faces The texture behind the homepage is a single coin: engraved rings on the pure side and the same rings swinging on the func side, meeting in the middle. It is the whole brand in one object. ## One key Our symbol lives on a single keycap, the thing you press to start something. We use it sparingly: in the hero, on the last step of a project, and next to the question at the end of the homepage. ## Color with a job Big areas stay calm: paper, ink and two soft tints. The loud colors are for what you can act on or should notice, like buttons and highlights. That is why the page feels calm and the buttons are obvious. - Paper (#EEEDE8): The page - Ink (#121316): Type and dark panels - Pale lime (#E3EEB4): Calm sections - Pale pink (#F3D8E3): Calm sections - Lime (#C8F031): Actions and highlights - Magenta (#FF3EA5): The one thing to notice ## Two typefaces Hubot Sans, narrowed and heavy, for headlines that feel built rather than typed. Monaspace Krypton, a monospace, for small notes. Both are free fonts, served from this site. ## What we design against AI can produce a decent-looking site in minutes, and that is the problem: they all look alike. These are the defaults we avoid on purpose. - Gradient text and glowing blobs - Sparkle “AI-powered” badges - Grids of identical icon cards - Small all-caps labels above every heading - Everything centered, with one button whose arrow wiggles - Copy that could describe any company ## How this site was built AI did a lot of the typing. Every decision you can see was made by a person. - Seven rounds of design, each rendered on the real page and critiqued before anyone saw it - A logo constructed from letter outlines: the p stands straight, the f swings 12° - Keycap and texture renders made in 3D and shipped as small images, with no live 3D - Prerendered static pages: nothing to hack and nothing to pay for per visitor - Readable by AI: llms.txt, a Markdown version of every page, structured data, and a contact form an AI assistant can fill in for you # How to spot a site AI made on its own Left on its own, AI builds the same decent-looking site every time. These are the 24 defaults we see most, why each one costs you, and what to do instead. Updated October 2026. ## One tell is a choice. Five is a default. Any of these can be a real decision. A gradient can be on brand; a centered page can be right for one message. The trouble starts when they arrive together, because then nobody chose them. The tells also change. Each model generation has its own habits: the first wave of AI sites had purple gradients and glowing blobs, and newer ones lean on bento grids, frosted glass and a label over every heading. We date this guide and update it as the defaults move. ## Type: Type that reads like a template Type is the first thing a visitor sees. Left alone, AI reaches for the same few moves. - **Gradient headlines.** A purple-to-blue fade on the biggest words. It looks expensive, reads worse, and says nothing about you. The fix: Solid type that says what you do. - **The same safe font.** Inter, or the system font, for every heading, line and button. It is never wrong, so it never says anything about the brand. The fix: A face picked for the brand, at a few clear sizes. - **A label over every heading.** A tiny all-caps word in the accent color above each heading: FEATURES, PRICING, SOLUTIONS. It repeats the heading and makes every section look like a slot in a template. The fix: A heading that does the job on its own. - **Emoji as bullets.** A rocket, a padlock and a sparkle in front of every point. It reads like a chat reply pasted onto a page. The fix: Plain points that make sense without a picture. ## Color: Color nobody chose The defaults have a palette of their own, and visitors have seen it a thousand times. - **Purple into blue.** Violet fading into blue behind everything. It became the color of AI launches, so now it reads as generated. The fix: Colors from your brand, and one accent with a job. - **Glowing blobs.** A blurry orb of color where the product should be. The fix: Show the real thing. - **Frosted glass.** See-through panels over a blurred background. Pretty in a screenshot, hard to read on a real screen. The fix: Solid surfaces with clear text. - **The accent on everything.** Links, icons, a word in the heading and both buttons in the same bright color. Nothing stands out, so nobody knows what to click. The fix: Save the accent for the one thing you want clicked. ## Layout: Layouts that fit any product If the layout could hold any company’s words, it is a template, not a design. - **The bento grid.** Rounded tiles in mixed sizes, each an icon and two words. It looks organized and holds nothing. The fix: Let the content set the layout: the main thing big, the rest around it. - **Same section, new color.** A heading, a line and three cards. Then the same again on a tinted background, and again. Nothing builds, so nobody keeps scrolling. The fix: Compose each section for what it has to say. ## Motion: Motion with no reason Movement should answer something: the page arriving, a tap, a change. Otherwise it is noise. - **Everything fades up.** Every block fades and rises as you scroll, the first screen too. Visitors wait to read, and a quick scroll shows empty space. The fix: Content that is there when the page loads. - **The wiggling arrow.** “Get started” with an arrow that nudges on hover. The same button is on every AI site, and it never says what starts. The fix: A button that names the action. - **Pulses that never stop.** Dots, rings and badges that pulse forever. Motion with no cause pulls the eye away from what you want read. The fix: Move only when something happens. - **A headline that types itself.** The main sentence types out letter by letter, or cycles through words. Visitors wait for the one line that matters. The fix: The whole sentence, there at once. ## Copy: Copy with nothing to say The quickest test: put a competitor’s logo on the page. If the words still work, they were never yours. - **Copy that fits anyone.** “Unlock the power of seamless innovation.” Swap the logo and it still works, which is the problem. The fix: Words only you could say. - **Sparkle badges.** “AI-powered” in a glowing pill above the headline. Visitors care what it does, not how. The fix: Lead with the outcome instead. - **Three-word slogans.** “Build. Ship. Scale.” Short, punchy and empty: three verbs any company could claim. The fix: One plain sentence about what you do, and for whom. - **Invented praise.** Five stars from “Sarah J., CEO” next to a stock face. Visitors spot it, and then they doubt everything else. The fix: Real quotes with full names, or none yet. ## Images: Pictures of nothing in particular The best picture on a product site is the product. The defaults show anything else. - **The made-up dashboard.** Charts going up and a “+24%” that is not your product. It promises software you do not have. The fix: Your real screen, cropped to the part that matters. - **The empty phone.** A phone floating at an angle on a gradient, its screen a blur or a few gray bars. It says there is nothing to show yet. The fix: The real app on the screen, straight on. - **Logos nobody knows.** “Trusted by” and a row of made-up marks. People recognize placeholder logos, and fake proof makes real claims look fake too. The fix: Name real customers, or leave the row out. - **Icons in gradient tiles.** A line icon in a glossy gradient square for every feature. They all look alike, so they explain nothing. The fix: A small crop of the real feature instead. ## Not slop. Just broken. None of these are AI tells. Any site can have them, built by hand or not, and each one costs you more than every tell above. Fix these first. - **Slow on a phone.** Heavy images, heavy fonts, a script for everything. Test on a mid-range phone, not your laptop. - **Text you can’t read.** Light gray on white, words over photos. Body text needs a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1. - **A page that jumps.** Things move while it loads, so you tap the wrong link. Give images and embeds their size up front. - **Locked to a mouse.** No visible focus, menus a keyboard can’t open, images with no description. Try your site with the Tab key alone. - **Dead ends.** Broken links, a blank “not found” page, a form that fails without saying why. - **Invisible to search and AI.** No titles or descriptions, no share image, words that only appear after JavaScript runs. Here is exactly what it collects, and why. Updated October 16, 2026. ## Who we are Pure Func LLC is a small product studio based in the United States. This policy covers purefunc.io. Questions about it: use the contact form, or reply to any email from us. ## What we collect - When you send the contact form: your name, email, project description, timeline, budget range, any links you add, and your answers to the follow-up questions. - When you visit: our host, Cloudflare, receives the technical details every website gets, such as your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for. It uses them to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. - Visit counts: Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without fingerprinting you. We only see totals, like how many people read a page and which countries visits come from. ## How we use it To reply to you, to prepare a proposal and, if we work together, to run the project. We may use AI tools to help turn your answers into a draft plan, with settings that keep your message out of model training. Visit counts tell us which pages are useful. We don’t sell your information, share it for advertising or build profiles of visitors. ## Who else handles it Each of these handles your information only to provide its service to us, under its own privacy policy: - Formspree delivers the contact form to our inbox. - Cloudflare hosts the site, protects it and counts visits. - Our email provider stores our conversation with you. - AI assistants may help us draft a plan from your answers, as above. ## How long we keep it Form messages and emails stay as long as we are talking or working together, then as long as tax and business records require. Ask, and we will delete them sooner unless the law says we must keep them. Cloudflare’s technical logs are short-lived and managed by Cloudflare. ## Your rights You can ask us to show you, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to stop using it. Use the contact form, or reply to any email from us, and we will answer within 30 days. We don’t sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We honor Global Privacy Control signals all the same. ## Cookies None. This site doesn’t set cookies or use your browser’s storage, which is why there is no cookie banner. If that ever changes, we will ask first. ## Where your information goes Pure Func LLC is a US company, and the services above store your information in the United States. ## Children This site is for businesses and isn’t meant for children under 13. Their own terms and policies apply there. ## No warranty We work to keep this site accurate and available, but it is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Pure Func LLC isn’t liable for losses that come from using it. ## Changes We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Questions?
